Title: June 16: An American Sings Opera in Merida

Article: On June 16, a lovely and extremely talented American young lady will sing for a performance called Gala de Ã?pera in Merida. The orchestra that will play that evening will be the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Yucatán, under the direction of José Luis Chan Sabido. The mezzosoprano who will be singing is Carla Dirlikov . This young lady is originally from Ypsilanti, Michigan, and is now married to tenor Michael Gallant. She holds dual citienship in the U.S. and Mexico, and is fluent in French, Spanish, and Italian, and proficient in German. She is currently an artist in residence at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, PA. To see more photos of this talented young lady, visit the website of photographer Julie Poole . Those pictures were taken when Julie just happened to run into Carla while taking photographs for an animal shelter, which should put her high on our list of favorites even if she wasn't a world famous opera singer and a newly named Cultural Envoy from the U.S. to Mexico.     The only problem with this performance is that they are expecting a full house on June 16, at 9:00 PM, in Teatro Peon Contreras. Now is the time to get into the city and get your passes because this will, in all likelihood, be a "sold out" event (especially since admission is Free)!   We are in hopes that as many expats as possible will turn out for this event, then write about it here on Yolisto and in your own blogs. Anyone who is this dedicated and this accomplished at such a young age deserves our support both on the night of her performance in Merida and in print after we see her. She is giving this same performance in smaller towns throughout the state of Yucatan during the next two weeks. Let's try to see to it that she has nothing but wonderful memories of our state and our expat community.
