Beachcombing, reading, writing, listening, siestas.

Not a big movie buff but would have to say Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz.

Elvis Costello, Little Joe y la Familia, Bob Dylan from the 80s, Latin, Fleetwood Mac, jazz and The Osmonds (just kidding)

Johnny Got His Gun, The Prince of Tides, The Prophet, Diary of a Mad Housewife, any true crime.

Reading while eating chocolate, fun people, acting silly, beer, acting silly while drinking beer, my arrowhead collection, clean windows, dark clouds, being alone, dogs, finding a new seashell, a good haircut, Mexican culture, milk, books, fishing, eating ice cream at the mercado, the beach, dancing with the mop, flowers, geckos and iguanas, slot machines, learning Spanish, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Boring people, sweat in my eyes, someone who wants to tell you all about a movie they saw or book they read (see boring people), pickled beets, sand in the bed, shopping, white bread, women who act like they are still in the seventh grade, wrinkles, dog farts, George Bush, misspelled words, ultra-conservative people, being awakened by the phone, any injustice to the weak or the poor.

I retired to Mexico in October, 2007, after working the last 25 years as a journalist in Nevada and California. Have three sons in Reno and four grandchildren. Mom, who is 83, and two brothers live in Oregon.

Good Morning Marlene!
Thanks for responding back :-) I guess the one question that I do have for you is..did you travel around a bit and see other areas of Mexico before settling where you are now? We absolutely love Mexico but I have only travel on the Pacific side and only as far down as Xtapa. Love the coastal towns very much!! If you had to pick one thing that you love the most about your area what would it be? Thanks again....do you ever hang out at the English Library? or where else do ex-pats hang out it?

Hi Beachbum :-)
I'm desiring to meet folks from Merida. My fiance and I are taking a trip in March. Hear a lot of great things but also some negative things. Would you be willing to share your favorite and least favorite things? Currently we live in California and desire to leave the area completely. I have had the opportunity to travel to Mexico many times but have never traveled to that side. Thanks for reading. Have a great Sunday!!!

~ Dina

I'm with you on the beets, I grow them but I sure do not eat them, nasty any way they can be prepared.

Well thanks beachbum.  I must admit I did put more than a one lined effort in so I'm glad you appreciated it.  Sometimes when I'm in the thick of things here, I don't even know myself. So looking forward to getting away.  Will we have a chance to meet up?  I think I see you're in Chelem.  I want to come to the beach and so far in very preliminary research, I guess I am headed on the bus to Progresso.  How do I hook up with you, with others....  or will I just find everyone wandering on the streets? :)

Hello Beachqueen: I got your name from the Yolisto site. I am from Toronto and spend winter Nov-March in Chelem. Currently, I am in Toronto. I am thinking to buy a used car in Chelem / Merida in Nov when I come there. Japanese or American cars from 1998 to 2003 will be fine. My budget is 20 to 30 thousand Mexican pesos.

I tried to look on the internet Merida site for used car sales. I could not get any info. I could not retrieve classified sections for auto from Merida news papers in spanish or English.

From your bio, I concluded that you are a very helpful person. Hence writing to you for help and direction to find used car sales in Merida on internet or otherwise. Any help greatly appreciated. You could email me : kjha@bell.net   Thank you, Kam (Feliz)

Marlene,

I really miss your expat profiles.  Do you have any in the works?
