The new Senorita Verano 2009 (Young Lady of Summer 2009) has been crowned in Progreso. While we congratulate the winner and every one of the young ladies who participated in this event, we also were struck by "ethnic" (for lack of a better word) origins in the list of their names. During a recent election, I was a Green Party Candidate. A woman in her 80´s called me from her care facility, very upset that her husband was being transferred to another elder health care facility in a nearby town for medical and budgetary reasons. She was heartbroken, that a relationship of 50 years was comimg to an end. Her husband was in despair. I referred her to a patient advocate, and lost track of her story.
