The El Paso store is on Calle 29 between 78 and 80, south side of the street.  Besides the Heinz sweet pickled relish and many other goodies, those wanting a liver pate spread can find it there.

I found the sweet pickle relish at El Paso, a little import store across the street from the plastic store in Progreso. Sorry, I don't know the number of the street but it's one block north of the plaza, between Calle 80 and 78.

I am still laughing and also wondering where you found the sweet relish?  I have been looking for 2 weeks.

- Tipped a man to help me park my car at the grocery store

- Swept sand off of my living room floor

- Waited for my coffee to get to lukewarm temperature before drinking it (so as not to raise my body temperature any higher!)

- Bought items from street vendors at intersections

- Dropped off my daily garbage at the dump

- Owned a house on the ocean

Great list!  Here are my additions:

*buy movies in a restaurant from a guy with a backpack
*buy pastries from a guy carrying them around on a platter on his head
*flag down a  truck and pay 5 pesos per bag for them to take my garbage
*use propane appliances
*get water from a tinaca on my roof
*not wear a watch 90% of the time
*invite total strangers to take a tour of my home
*pour bleach down my drains to control scorpions and cockroaches
*make my own bagels from scratch
*eat chayote
*buy shrimp from a guy flagging down cars on the street
*live without a home phone
*eat coconut from my own trees
*feel safe enough to go out on the street any time of night or day
*own furniture made of cement
*own a house made of cement
*have construction workers sleep in my bodega in hammocks
*ask total strangers to bring groceries in their checked luggage for me

So I am from a tiny town in Trinidad.. and I grew up doing 90% of these things as the norm. I would not wait for the iguana to cross the road though.. hat would be dinner.hahha

I think the neighbor wearing a kilt, playing bagpipes beats all !! I've got to see that one ! how funny ! lol lol lol

  • Plant tomatos in January

  • Grow pineapples outside

  • Have regular dinner at friends houses, or at our house on a weekday (Sometimes without advance planning!)

  • Having someone pump our gas (not for a long time, anyway)

  • Hang our laundry outside

  • Not liked restaurant pizza

  • Accepting that all appointments are later than the time scheduled, and being ok with it

  • Being happy when it gets below 80 degrees at night in summer

  • Buy $2 pre-theatre release DVDs from a guy who comes to our house

  • Have a Mexican neighbor who plays the bagpipes, in a kilt, across the street from our house

  • Go to a garden center and find out the owner knows nothing about fertilizer

I never thought an afternoon shower could feel soo darn good .

Eating eggs or mayo that wasn't refrigerated

Buy milk from a box that sat on the shelf un refrigerated

Never would have known the smell coming from the local tortillirias , and enjoyed it so.

Never would have seen people catch octopus

Never would have seen dolphins play

I never would have seen teenagers walking with thier moms holding hands

seen a family of 4 or 5 on one moped

enjoyed the sound of the birds in Centro

and finally , I just never would have smiled as much
