Yolisto Classics Series: 22 Free Books
Posted On 04/06/2009 23:10:31 by administrator
There's one thing we tell anyone coming to visit us from up North: "Bring books." Finding good, English-language books can be difficult here in Yucatan (though initiatives like the Merida English Library and the Progreso Book Exchange certainly help to get books into the hands of hungry readers). Why not use this as an opportunity to catch up on some of the classics you always MEANT to read, but never quite got around to?

We are happy to present the following 22 classics, all in convenient PDF format. You can read them on your computer, or if you like, they are formatted for print, as well. To save each book, right-click on the link and select "Save Target As."
Enjoy, and if there is sufficient interest, we will make this a recurring feature.

beachbum - your English teacher just didn't know how to tell the story right (LOL)... Hamlet should be set in pre-Civil War Atlanta... and the "wanna-be in the in-crowd" brother tells his sister that the rich boy will never marry her because his family will choose his wife. She tells him that he reminds her of the preacher who tells the rest of us to behave while he "tiptoes down the primrose path of dalliance"  ... I think Hamlet is hilarious and should be made into a period soap opera! At the very least, it should be read aloud with a THICK At-LAN-ah accent! LOL

What a great list!  As many of us book lovers know it is quite a challenge trying to find recent English books here.  Your list will help us with some classics and I just got a link to the entire Twilight series, free to read on line.  Here it is:

Hope you enjoy it and hope we can find some more!

How totally cool. Interesting collection of books you have compiled there. I've read 14 of them mostly the stuff from the 1800s amazingly enough.

Theresa

Malcom;
I'm sure you are aware of this Google service but for those who are not...Google Books has many out of print/out of copyright books available in PDF format. There is a very good Advanced Search that will help readers find what they are looking for.
Of local interest, I have downloaded several of the works dealing with early explorations of the Yucatan:
Incidents of travel in Yucatanâ??
The American Egypt: a record of travel in Yucatanâ??
Rambles in Yucatan: Or, Notes of Travel Through the Peninsula

These titles are along the lines of your Classic Series...except that they are true accounts of life, adventure and discovery in the Yucatan.

This will inspire me to read some of the classics I haven't read and to read again those I love. But I WILL NOT read Hamlet again. An English teacher spent a whole semester on Hamlet.

I am excited to reread Little Women and try Ulysses yet again. Thanks, admin.

Thanks Malcolm!  This is awesome and we look forward to reading some of these.

P.S.  Are these available for an indefinite period of time or do they "expire"?

Malcolm, don't forget me. My books aren't free but I have lots for sale.
