Gossip in the Community
Posted On 06/29/2009 21:30:47 by sarge

I ran across a quote today that says it pretty straight.

WATCH YOUR THOUGHTS; they become words.

WATCH YOUR WORDS; they become actions.

WATCH YOUR ACTIONS; they become habits.

WATCH YOUR HABITS; they become character.

WATCH YOUR CHARACTER; it becomes your destiny.

Most of us that live here full time know the gossip and rumors run rampant in the community. I know I became a victim of it from persons I thought were close friends. Guess I was wrong.

We all came here for a better way of life and to have a good time and spend our retirement peacefully. We should be pulling together and helping each other out and helping the local community instead of gossiping about what each other is doing or did. So the next time you are talking about Shirly Sue or Billy Bob (names made up) remember the quote above because if you do it enough you become labeled a gossiper and that becomes your destiny.

I only turn my cheek one time  in avoidance.

Hi Sarge.   You couldn't have said it better.  My husband and I retired here to have a good life, too live and let live.  I am extremely thankful for those who helped us with the transition but could not help but notice the gossip.  My mom always said if you cannot say anything nice then don't say anything at all.  thank you for writing this article hope everyone reads it and takes it to heart.  We are all strangers in a strange land learning.

I first came across this quote while reading about The Law of Attraction. Its a quote that basically summarized all metaphysical and self help books that talk about setting goals and achieving ones destiny or purpose.

It is a step by step summary of how our thoughts can manifest into reality. I guess this can be related to gossip but its this ancient wisdom that we should use for positive outcomes. I know I have already made some great things manifest by simply thinking they will. Good luck to all!

My Papa (grandfather) said that people are gonna "talk" and you can't keep them from it... but its your choice how you react to it and it is actually your choice what they talk about. His "best favorite" fun was starting outrageous rumors to counter stupid rumors. Someone started a lie about why I was being raised by my grandparents. I cried. Papa just laughed and answered it (all over town!) with "That's not TRUE! That girl got left behind, as a baby, when the circus came to town! EVERYbody knows THAT!" The fallout was hilarious! But he was very careful to always treat anybody who would pass a rumor along with a VERY "long handled spoon." He would, very quietly, say: "Honey, they are just not the sort of folks we would want in our home."

Sarge, people are cruel and they make mistakes true enough. "Maybe mistakes are what make our fate....without them what would shape our lives? Maybe if we had never veered off course we wouldn't fall in love, have children, or be who we are today. After all...all things change. People come into our lives and they go. But it's comforting to know that the ones you love are always in your heart... And a if your really lucky... Only a short plane ride away".

I'm a three strike guy, most people get three screw-ups before I write them off but if its a line drive that could take my head off-they're out of here...
