A Look Around Progreso
Posted On 08/23/2008 16:19:57 by Seattlesky
I decided it would be fun to actually show some of the places we all talk about in the forums for newcomers to the beach area to see.  Check out my blog and tell me what I left out :)  Yucatanrebirth.

If you have not checked out this blog  yet you should. The “look around Progreso”

was very helpful in identifying buildings where new home owners need to pay for  public services.  Also great tips on where to buy things.

I think you should post who the contractor is doing  work on your house. It looks like they are doing a great job.

 Thanks for the info.

PS. The pics of the pups are adorable

Oh, and regarding the Evil Empire...we avoid going to Bodega Aurrera not because it is a Wal-Mart company, but mainly because they sell mostly rotten produce and meat (unless you happen to catch them on delivery day). We try and keep our trips there to a minimum, or for staple stuff, and do our food shopping in Merida. I know, I know, there was once a time where San Francisco was the only game in town, and I should be THANKFUL for Bodega Aurrera. Well, I think they should do better. DVDs, bread, eggs, and sugar, okay. Hot dog flavored chicken wings, sandwich lasagna, and costillo de dinosaur, I'm all set.

That was a FANTASTIC photo tour...I really loved it. We didn't even know about the used furniture place. And I shouted, "YES!" out loud when you got to Benny's Burg(u)ers...I love that place, but I never get to go because Jillian pretends it made her sick once.

Thanks for taking the time to do that Progreso tour, very cool.  I've tried the Simi consult.  It's great for things that you kind of know what you have, but would like a suggestion of which of the myriad drugs, lotions, potions you should use.  In my case it was an ongoing fungus?/infection? under a fingernail that had been annoying me for weeks, some tropical weirdness .  Anyway, with the 25 pesos consult and a couple of meds I never would have tried without it, I was good to go. Free follow up to confirm that yes it was better, and no my finger wouldn't be falling off any time soon.  And yeah, the WalMart thing....there are covert WalMarts all over the place down here.  I was excited to find Superama last year in Merida, as they had some stuff that I couldn't find other places....then upon bringing home the goods noticed that they are WalMart based too, but having already given in to the WalMart invasion in Oregon...I will admit I've completely sold out and am just glad to find pickle relish, cranberry sauce, and blah blah blah.  Anyhow, great pictures...I will even remember better how to find stuff in Progreso now....I still suck at giving directions or remembering how I got somewhere...I usually just drive/wander around until I recognize something and then feel lucky when I find it again....duh.

Nice job. I saw a couple places I never knew existed and I've been to Progreso many, many times.

This is a great service for the newcomers. Wish I had something like that when I first got here.

Thank you so much for all of this information. We just purchased a house in Chuburna and will be coming there only a few times a year until we can retire. In the meantime, we are working on it an need to furnish it. This information will really help us when we get there, I appreciate it

Thanks for putting this photo tour together!  The photos of your house transformation have been fun to watch too!

BTW, I've been to the Bodega Aurrera once, but I didn't realize they were part of the Evil Empire.  I completely share your feelings about those greed mongers.
