August 26th - A bit about me...
Posted On 08/26/2008 21:25:29 by dep121

Hello:)

I received a request to be someones boyfriend today, so I decided I should introduce myself ;)

I'm 35 and female - yes you heard me - I am a girl LOL

I have a 5 year old son who is the light of my life.  Our family is small and it is just the two of us, plus a very adorable miniature poodle named Midas who is not only blind but also toothless :)  So yes, he is harmless, and therefore cannot even laughingly be passed off as my guard dog anymore...

My house is for sale here in Saskatchewan Canada, and with the sale we are going to be travelling south, wayyy south, to Progreso/Merida area.  I will be bringing an old small trailer with me, so if anyone has ideas of the safest way to park it while we rent and try to find the right real estate I will eagerly accept any and all advice.

We spent the month of October at a rental house in Chixculub in 2006.  Since then my heart stayed pining for life in the Yucatan.  I love the life there, the people, the priorities, the weather.  I truly love the culture.

I am hoping my house sells in this saturated market (too many houses for sale here in Saskatoon right now).  If anyone has any good vibes to send my way I would appreciate it.  I truly do not want to spend another winter here.  As it is I cannot afford to keep my house here and head south, so the logical step for me is to sell and begin the adventure of a lifetime.  My son, Braden, is excited about returning to Mexico and so am I :)

I can no longer live in a crazed north american society where even in Canada the average person is more concerned about getting the newest this, or the best that, and watching too much tv (i do myself) and not living a natural life.  I want to break free of consumerism, and to do so my move may seem drastic to some, but extremely natural to me :)

I enjoy a laid back warm weather life style and love to indulge in a cold cervesa or margarita and me and my son love to swim :)  Braden will love to make some new friends when we arrive, so anyone who may want to make a play date - I am happy to do so!

Lots of love and kindness to everyone on this site - so far I have only good things to say about it :)

Great news! All of us who have done it know exactly how you feel. Congratulations.

Now you'll start making lists...what to bring, what to do before you leave. Each time you cross off an item it brings you that much closer to Mexico.

Saludos!

Hello everyone!  I am sooooo excited - as of last night my house is (conditionaly) sold!  Wooppeeeee!!!  The conditions are the normal ones, a home inspection first yada yada, and have to be removed by next Wednesday.  I'm so excited :)  Posession date is Nov 1st so that is two months away, but it is because I have a tenant in my basement, and I have to give him a months notice - if my tenant can find a place sooner the buyers would like me to move up the possession date by a couple of weeks, and that would put us at mid October.  Either way we should be on the road on or before November 1!

I tried out my trailer on the labour day weekend and found it is just too heavy for me to pull.  My small suv can do it, but going up small hills was difficult so there is no way I would want to pull it all the way down to Mexico.  So I sold it already and now am going to look for a small cargo trailer, ideally it would be 8x5 or near there.  If I end up with something bigger I'll try to sneak in some rootbeer LOL

Now I'm going to have to go back to the 'what to bring list' and get packing :))

Hello dep. .

I just now read your introduction of yourself, and your son . .

I don't get on yolisto all that much, a quick look every day or two, as am trying to 'keep up with too many other things'. . and so I miss a lot of what is going on. .

I really like your thoughts. . . many of the reasons you state are the same as what has made my husband and myself want to move to where life is more laid back and one can relax and enjoy a bit of 'peace'. . . something that is hard to find in this 'hurry-up' - 'it's all about the money' thing that seems so much a part of life here in the states. . .

I wish you the best of luck in your plans. . . hoping that the sale of your home comes through and enables you and your son (and the dog!) to make the move you are dreaming of. . . Don't give up. . .Our own plans have been delayed quite a bit, as according to our first 'course of action' - we should already be in our new home on the beach. . which is just first now starting construction. . .

Hoping to meet you and your son in the near future!!. .

good luck!!

Good luck with selling your house.  We too are taking the plunge and moving lock stock and barrell to a wonderful life in the Yucatan.  We have a daughter your age and encourage you to do what ever your heart tells you to do.  We love the Chuburna/Chelem area for the peace and quiet it provides.  You are welcome to stop by for a cold beer anytime.  Just look us up we are just off the Cherna Entrada between Chelem and Chuburna, number 484.

Take care and good luck with the sell of your place.  It will be a long drive for you and your son but what an adventure.

Sincerely,

Gary and Nancy Draper

You know, if you fill the trailer with coffee from Tim's and red licorice, you could drive down the streets with those speakers on the roof of the car and sell the stuff.  Enough expats down here....you could probably finance the new house with the sales!

Welcome to yolisto! I am a 34 year old with with two kiddos of my own. My oldest is 3 years old so hopefully there will be an opportunity for play dates in the near future. We still live in Dallas but hope to make the move by the end of the year. In the meantime, good luck to you and thanks for the great intro!

Thank you everyone :)  It is amazing how small a world it is, really cool to know that legalblonde actually lived here in toon town, and that a fellow saskatonian is in Celestun.

I love the info guys, thanks :)

It puts a big silly grin on my face to know that Braden has a couple of new friends already too :)

I am so eager to get this sale done.  Yeah Saskatoons market sounds like it is doing exactly what happened in Calgary, I wonder how long it will take for the market to normalize... The market peaked in around March, and then when spring hit everyone plus me decided to take advantage of new found equity in our homes...  so there is so much competition that it is making selling a bit tough...  Our economy here is still really really strong, so thankfully I am not looking at a market like that of our friends south of the border... I know with all the possitive energy involved, and coming from two diff countries it will happen soon :) where there is a will - there's a way, right?

I will definately let everyone know when I am finally on my way down, I will then be taking bribes for rootbeer and such lol j/k ;)

Our best wishes on selling your house in S.

I know what are you talking about, we live in Edmonton and always dreaming to go to my home town, Merida.

I am sure the US-Canadian community will give you and your son a nice welcome,

I am from Merida, Yucatan and the only place that I know close from the beach for trailerpark is on the left hand side of the road once you hit Progreso, also there is another one close to the airport. I don't know if that one still exists..

Have a nice drive, and please make an effort to take TH coffee with you, you'll miss it!My husband on his trip to Merida refused to have instant coffee, now I don't blame him.

Some great folks from Saskatoon have a vacation rental in Celestun.  If you go onto vacationrentals.com and look in celestun you will find them...Karen and Ken and Wanda are their names...the name of their place escapes me now...too overwhelmed by the invite to become a boyfriend.  Good luck trying to sell the house.  We were shocked to find out how little our house is worth in Boston compared to two years ago so we're hoping for some fundemental changes from our gov't.   Hah!

Having lived inn Saskatoon for 4yr I can appreciate why you would want to come to the Progresso area and not want another Saskatoon winter. We are from Calgary and came down here in June when we retired and only wish we had done so earlier. We bought a house in Chelem. I thought the Saskatoon market was thriving - I guess the same thing happened as did in Calgary last year, too many people trying to cash in. We have just sold our house in Calgary so this is our only home now and we love it. Hope to meet you when you arrive
