Hello Everyone,
I'm writing today to share my experience with the purchase of my home in Chuburna. I was introduced to this area by Doug and Theresa Willey whom I've gotten to know very well over the past year. Doug and Theresa work with Mayan Living Realty and specialize in properties on and around the beach areas of Chelem, Chuburna, Progresso and other surrounding areas and locations in the Yucatan. When I first visited the area I was unsure if it was right for me. I'm no where near retirement at 35 years old, but was looking for a place where I could start a new lifestyle unlike the hectic, expensive and never ending hassels my everyday life has here in the U.S., not to say that I wouldn't experience such things in Chelem or Chuburna, but the day to day life of the people here and the culture and focus on family really touched me. My first visit to the area was somewhat unpleasant. It was January 1, 2008 and the weather was quite awful. I thought the Yucatan was somewhere that had warm pleasant weather, and Doug assured me this was not normal. It was really hard to view property that day because the wind was blowing so hard the sand was almost piercing our skin, not to mention the chill in the air. As we viewed properties none of them really interested me in the price range I wanted to be in. One of the last homes I viewed was called the Yellow Chuburna on the Mayan Living website. When I walked into the house it was almost like it called my name as I entered. This house was more than double the price range I was looking to spend but I saw so much potential in this home I simply fell in love with it immediately. Still very reluctant on purchasing in this area I returned home and started some research on Yucatan and that local area. Doug and Theresa was always available for my many questions and actually would email me about new things going on in the area and just to say hello. In February I decided to go ahead and make an offer on the home, still somewhat reluctant on how much I was going to spend. Doug and Theresa, as well as, Jim Mann from Mayan Realty was always there to reassure me I was making the right desicions. In March I went back down to close on the property. I arrived in Merida at the closing attorneys office where everything went as smoothly as possible. The weather there was beautiful and couldn't wait to return to Chelem and Chuburna to my new home. As I drove from Merida towards the area the weather was perfect and as I exited from the main Highway towards Chelem it all of a sudden became cloudy and started to rain. I told my self not this again! It rained for the first two days I was at my new home and I hadn't seen the sun shine in this place yet! Doug and Theresa again was there to reassure me and was always there for any help with labor and almost anything I needed. I reassured them if I didn't see any sunshine the next day I was putting this house back up for sale, just joking. Needless to say the next two weeks I was there was perfect. Waking every morning to the beautiful emerald waters was almost like a dream, it was also my 35 birthday during that time and Doug and Theresa made sure I had the perfect birthday. They introduced me to all of the expats they knew, as well as, the wonderful locals. I was back down in June and Doug and Theresa was right there for me. Making sure I had everything I needed and even calling on laborers to help me with some touch up work needed. If it hadn't been for Doug and Theresa I could honestly say I probably wouldn't have made the purchase. I would not hesitate in anyone who is looking for property in the Yucatan to call Doug and Theresa Willey. I would promise you it would be the best contact you could possibly make if you are wanting to know more about realestate opportunities in the Yucatan, or just have any questions about anything. Doug and Theresa are not only good people and friends they are the type of people I would be proud to call my own family.
