What you bought
Posted On 12/23/2008 09:09:35 by beachbum

Hello, fellow Yolisters! I have posted a photo of the toys your generous donations provided for the kids in Chelem this Christmas. The gifts will be delivered by Santa tonight and I hope to have some pictures of happy faces to add in the next day or two.

In one week, we collected 10,880 pesos! That's not counting the toys that were purchased by some of you and added to the stack. I am proud and thankful for the kind expats who have chosen to give back to this community we call home. You have truly demonstrated the true meaning of Christmas.

These gifts will go to children who probably wouldn't otherwise receive anything this year. A local family who knows all their neighbors will direct Santa to the neediest neighborhoods.

A special thanks to LegalBlonde (Nan) and beachstarz (Star) for help with shopping and making 200 bags of candy that will also be distributed. And, of course, Santa (Sarge, aka Rick). You guys are the best.

I saved receipts and will be happy to scan and send them to anyone who asks. We bought small gifts for the two local women who are helping and will use the remaining $20 to buy beer for Santa. He'll need a drink after all those Ho-Ho-Hos.

Feliz Navidad

Can't wait to see the photos. Marlene, Star and, particularly Sarge, you did a fantastic job and I am pleased to have been able to do a little bit to help you.  When you see what we did in one week, imagine what we will be able to do next year with planning.

Tonite has gone down as one of the most memorable times in my life. Thanks to all of you we were able to make some really needy kids christmas and day a whole lot brighter.

We went to childrens houses that were really sick and some disabled and I was able to exstend my hand out for all of you and bring some joy to them.

I have played Santa in the states before but it doesnt compare to here, when you see 30 to 50 kids running after the truck yelling Santa,Santa it really warms your heart .

There was one little girl that was about 8 years old that was led to the front of the crowd by her sister, the other kids parted and let her come to the front. When i went to hand her a gift i seen that she was blind so I had to take a little extra time with her and let her touch my beard so she could relate to what was going on.

Some times we get so wrapped up in our own things that we forget what christmas really is,tonight I went back to the way it is supposed to be.

When Marlene and Star post the pictures you will see what I mean.

I want to thank all of you for your donations, some of you will not know how happy you made these kids but I can tell you that all of you gave these kids something that they would not of had if you had not donated.

Thank you Marlene for all your hard work and allowing me to help,it was the best present I could ever get.

Thank you Nancy for your work on this ,shopping for all of these toys over $1000 dollars wort is alot of work. You have a big heart and im honored to know you.

And last but by no means the least thank you Star my wife. You always amaze me with how big your heart is and how compassionate you are.But then thats why I love you and why I married you.See its not just that sexy little behind you have.LOL

You can all rest assured that the Christmas spirit is alive and strong here in Chelem.

All 3 of you need to pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL,

Santa (Sarge) - Thank you SO MUCH for coming to our house today!  The day was about the local kids in Chelem.  The fact that you stopped by our house with some bits of candy in hand and a wonderful Ho Ho Ho - was just PERFECT!!

This was going to be the first year I didn't have a picture of my son with Santa.  And you just made our day :)  Not only do we have our picture, we have a great memory of Santa coming to our house.

I called my mom in Canada immediately afterwards to tell her of the excitement.  In the background my 5 yr old son says "and he was real! he wasn't a fake santa" :)

Thanks for posting the pic Marlene . You really can't see in the photo all the toys that are buried on that table . Marlene bagged them last night and had 10 large trash bags full . It's going to an exciting day today ! Marlene and I were both awake half the night , just antisipating it all .  Thank you Marlene for doing such good work in such short time ,and for all of you who were soo willing to give . Happy Christmas !!
