let me start off by saying that walter is very handsome, and his record beats one of our greys by 3 wins. our boys record was 0 wins and 7 losses, and if memory serves me correctly, i believe they used the word "lackluster" to describe his short career of 1-2 months. however, what they lack in speed is made up in love, devotion, tenderness, loyalty and oh yes that velcro thing. that must be a pretty universal term in the greyhound communities, for you hear it alot at greyhound gatherings.
we had no idea about rescue groups, until we decided to look for a grey, and unfortunately we joined up with one that had different ideas about where the money we raised should go. so once we could see that our crazy bowls, trivia nights, and dances with silent auctions were funding things other than greyhounds needs, we moved on and were alot more careful about who we did volunteer work for. i'm only sharing this because our love for the breed sometimes clouds our good judgement, and we get taken in by the unscrupulous types who know we'll work hard to help our sleek buddies. that said, i can assure you the next group we associated with was looked at very closely before we got involved. i'm very pleased to tell you that the second group had an adoption fee of $175 as opposed to $425 of the first group. they also offered free collars, free instruction manuals, beautiful signs to use to market their services, and help with anything you can imagine. so here's their website if you're ever in the market again, www.gpamo.org or the national website is www.greyhoundpets.org the first website is a group in springfield, missouri, and that's who we recommend when someone approaches us about our two boys. the second website is the national chapter, and it has listings of the springfield folks, as well as chapters all over the US
you asked if we were still in the dreaming stage, and i would have to say that we are past that and have pretty much narrowed our area of relocation to the outskirts of Merida, Yucatan. however we also realize that there are many beautiful areas that we haven't experienced, and certainly appreciate the opportunity to hear about new places when others are willing to share. i don't think we've heard of san bruno, and we would love to learn a little more about it and what attracted you to it. we're hoping to be able to make our move south of the border sometime early 2009, but that hinges on a real estate market which is starting to look like, "hey buddy do i have to pay you to buy my house?" i hope this hasn't gotten too lengthy, but when someone tugs on our greyhound heartstrings, we know that we have quality people on the other end!!!
if you would send me an email at boxersbob@yahoo.com with "gail from yolisto" in the subject line, so i know it's from you, i'd love to send a reply with a couple of shots of our retired boys who also raced in florida. oh, by the way, the boxers part of my email address is one of the other canines who rule our lives, she's a sweetheart of a boxer who just lost her sister, another boxer, to cancer.
again, sorry if i've babbled too much, and we're very much looking forward to hearing from you again.
