There is a place called Cubano something on Paseo Montejo on the corner of calle 39.
They open around 8 or 9 pm. I walk by there on occasion, but have never tried it. So, I have no idea if its authentic Cuban or not. Walked past there at midnight Saturday, the place was hopping, lots of people dancing inside. |

There's a Cuban food restaurant on Ave. Correa Racho -- on the east side (right hand side, if you are going from Plaza Fiesta towards the Periferico)...of course, I've never eaten there, nor do I remember the name...but it has "Cuba" in it. (thanks to Theresa's post, I now know the same is Cubanisimo).
Helpful, no? Also, there now is a direct flight to La Habana from Merida.... |

I really wanted to try this place when I was in Merida last month. Haven't heard about the food but the music sounds amazing. Next trip, for sure! http://www.yucatanliving.com/reviews/cuban-music-and-food-in-merida.htm Does anyone have a handy link for the new Merida-Havana flights, by the way? |

El Cumbanchero sounds like a wonderful place! I will definitely put it on my "places to go" list and plan on eating dinner there. Thanks for mentioning it. |

It's a small place, didn't eat there, but the music was good.
Lots of salsa and some good dancers. They also get the patrons involved in some quick lessons and a contest, if they are game.

I would not go to Cumbachero for the food, the music is good though. Go there for the music and to Cubanisimo on Racho Correa (or is it on Diaz Ordaz) for the food. They have a buffet on Sundays that is excellant.
It's been quite awhile since I have eaten there but I bet the quality is still good, it was full of Cubans. regards, Theresa |

Ah -- thanks for the name (Cubanisimo) Theresa -- that is the restaurant I was talking about in my post. It's on Ave. Correa Racho, which is in Colonia Diaz Ordaz (a few blocks past Plaza Fiesta, on the same side of the street).
