Satellite companies won't allow the rebroadcast of their signals.   As I said above, it's not the laptop, the TV, or the router that's the roadblock.     It's rebroadcasting the satellite signal that can't be done.

I have my sat receiver plugged into my router but it is one way only from the internet to download video on demand.   The receiver has not be designed to send.   That's why it's called a "receiver".

Ok, now that I understand why you want the direct connection it is  much  "clearer".    In my working years I used my Slingbox around the world.   Using it here with the repeater towers has been the worst quality of picture i have experienced.  With cable or DSL I  got good clear pictures in Asia, Europe and  other  Latin Countries.

Chuck,
The  Slingbox is used on Satellites in North America.  The receiver signal to the TV has a splitter which allows the Slingbox to get the same signal.  The Slingbox  then pushes the signal to the Internet.  We had friends using it with Direct TV.   What is different about here?

Oh really, how does the signal get to your TV? It is sent to the TV via HDMI, S-video, or cables, which actually makes it a transceiver. So it does send a signal, you just need a way to send the signal it sends to a laptop if that is possible. Oh, and they make AV senders for that purpose. Just google AV senders. or click this link

I think you are missing the point. Dave does not want wires, and the whole point is that satellite signals cannot be sent wirelessly via wifi to a laptop.  I'm sure if there was enough demand, someone could do a hack of some kind though.

Sorry Chuck but yes they can. You connect the Sat to TV output to an AV sender, depending on the laptop you could use a TV card or receive the signal direct. To quote the equipment maker "TV to PC or PC to TV
Stay tuned for updates to this section as there are some new great PC to TV solutions coming out. They connect to your computer via USB and then transmit wirelessly to an HDMI dongle which you connect to your TV. Earlier models were low resolution. The models currently in production work with Full HD 1080p.

Chuck,
Always open to learning something new.  Especially here in Mexico.    How does Slingbox do this for Direct TV?   :)

Dave, I don't know if this will help or not, or is even what you are looking for, but we have an app for Slingbox on our iPad. This allows us to watch anything from our home TV/DVR/DVD on our iPads, wherever we happen to be in the world. We also have some cables that allow us to connect our iPad to a TV for the times we want a bigger screen.

Terry,
Signal from Cable, DSL or other?   We have the same App, but our signal is from a cable signal?  The TV connection is also great for movies bought or rented from Itunes!

AV senders will send the signal from one tv to another wirelessly so you don't have to run cables from room to room.   Unless you laptop has a TV reception capabilities, this won't work to send you satellite signal to your laptop.   You can get tv tuner cars for a laptop, so yes Dave it is possible.

I don't mind that everyone disagrees with me but why not answer Dave's original question?     How can he get his satellite TV subscription signal on his laptop, wirelessly?

Chuck, I did that, he needs an AV sender at the receiver end, as in the link I posted and TV card in his laptop or he could look into something like this system.

Chuburnaman, Our signal in the US is from AT&T U-Verse which is fiber optic technology for digital TV. We switched to this from cable about a year ago. And yes, we also really enjoy the movies from itunes cabled from the iPad to the TV.

Just another thought. I use a sling box connected to my DVR in the states. I have a boxee box in Merida that is connected to my router. Boxee has a slingbox app and a HDMI out to my HD TV.  I am using Cablemas and the picture is very good and has the DVR funtions. Boxee Box is also wifi so it's doesn't need to be cabled to your router.

read about Boxee here http://www.boxee.tv/

And here's what I would do Dave........get a long coaxial cable, and put the TV where ever you want.
And if it's really that far, you can get a signal boost amp at most stores for around 200 pesos!
