Hello Kswagg, We are desiring to meet others who have been to Merida or plan on moving there. We are planning a trip in March for 2 weeks and if all works out we will be moving there. Can you share any love/hates about your trip to Merida or experiences that you had? Thanks for reading and possibly responding back.
The bird is ¨Toh¨in Mayan or Tourquoise -browed MotMot. It is the state bird of the Yucatan. They are called the clock bird because when danger is about their tail goes back and forth like a grandfather clock.
sorry, I lost my password etc and haven't been on here for months. We are going to be there on October 9th for just over a week - maybe you can change your Nov. week?
Hi & thanks for the welcome! We closed on the house in July and have been down 4 other times since then. We're trying to come in every couple of months or so. My husband will be back in May for a guy's fishing trip, but I probably won't get to come down until August or September. Sad. We'd love to meet you sometime. The people we've met so far have been great!
Here's the story on hooshootoo, as I know it. To start, I'll begin by telling you that the term camp in Louisiana means a basic structure the equivalent of a cabin, usually used for weekend trips of hunting and fishing by a group of guy friends.
Back during prohibition a group of guys from Baton Rouge (politicos, businessmen, etc) used to go out to a camp way down a dirt road, on a river, in the middle of nowhere about 30 minutes outside of town. This area of Louisiana was very country back then. They told their wives they were going hunting. They'd bring their girlfriends, or some party girls, and their booze; play music, get all drunk up, and hang out for the weekend. The camp grew in popularity as a weekend gathering place for partying. One night, as one of the regular guys arrived at the camp, he laid eyes on an attractive girl he had not seen before, and asked another member, "Who she to?" As in, who does she belong to, or who is she with? After that the camp was jokingly referred to as the HooShooToo camp, and eventually the road heading out there was named the HooShooToo Road. This road is now a large traffic artery heading out of Baton Rouge, and still carries the name HooShooToo Rd. Kind of a funny.
Yes we went to the meet up. Had an unusually large crowd. I'd say over 100 people. Plus a lot of people came later including some of Carlos' relatives.
The art was nice, we were going to buy a couple pieces, until we found out they were $3,000.00 US not pesos! They had a string quartet play........
they were good but we were not really the right class of people for how this meet up was set up. I doubt any of the paintings were sold.
Needless to say tough we had a good time........Jim
Hi Shelley: We were down for a week at Christmas and again in February, but we just missed you guys. Let us know next time you are going and hopefully we can meet up. Say hi to Ken for us....Trish
Oh great to hear from you guys! That was fun, I hadn't laughed so much for quite awhile! I'd love to see some of the pictures, I'll send you my email address in a message on here....I got some pics too, I still have to check them out. Shortly after that BullPen night I got some cold bug and am still recovering, I sure hope I didn't pass it on to anyone that night, I knew I felt a bit off, but didn't know it would be such a bad bug. Anyway, keep warm. I am finally going to go visit some family and friends in Oregon the last week of March, just booked it today, so I'm kind of excited, but it will also be a bit strange I think...it's been 2 years!!!!! Talk to ya soon
