rock hounding of all sorts, growing things, wood working, pottery, tile, landscaping, maps, history and public policy. I like sport but I'm too old for most of them. I ski, skate and sled ride in winter and boat about on the local rivers and lakes in summer.

Clockwork Orange, Caddyshack, Blues Brothers, Fried Green Tomatoes, Grapes of Wrath.

Pink Floyd, Jazz, blues and rock and roll. Buddy Holly died way too soon.

anything on history, geology or science

I like going to ruins, little country towns and anywhere people gather for fun. I like driving down roads that are not marked where they go, I do not mind having to turn around and go back, it is part of life.

bigots, mean people and beets

I was born in 56 here in Ohio. I married in 77 to my high school sweetheart and worked the past 30 years in a local steel mill. My wife and I hope to retire to winters in the Yucatan and summers on Lake Erie. Linda and I have three children, our parents are all living and doing well. We started visiting Latin America in the late 70's and have been back as often as possible. Our goal is a small farm, not too far out with sweet rich soil to set our roots down into.

Wow, I haven't  heard of Ashtabula Ohio in more than 35 years. Shades of my childhood. I used to go with my dad from Toledo to Ashtabula for american legion parades.

HA! I know somebody who did that in Yucatan. Brought NOB farming and watering practices down here - on a little quinta with 400 fruit trees. The trees started producing "without bound" - and they are buried in fruit! I shouldn't laugh. They gave away all they could and now drive many miles a week bringing fruit to the food bank in Chicxulub... but it really was funny to see all of those 5 gallon buckets of fruit! millions of em! LOL  Welcome to Yucatan... LOL

Of course the families made the best decisions they could under the circumstances. I respect that.

I am trying to change public policy in a public care system.

In a mature democracy, caring for the elderly should not fall to their families, any more than each family should be solely responsible for caring for a disabled child, or the chronically ill or the education of children. Even if they are willing and able, the burden can be overwhelming. I think you can see where I am headed.

A society in which money rules needs a good push toward more humane values.
