Hi all, does this forum include PDC?

anyhoo, I'm in PDC for a while and need my low sugar breakfast, Wheetabix, the boring looking English cereal. any idea where to find around here? I looked in Wallmart already but no luck. In the US i would go to trader joe's, anything like that here?

It seems that all the mexican breakfast cereals are just loaded with sugar.

Gracias

Pretty much.  You *might* be able to find shredded wheat, which is nutritionally similar to Weetabix.  Oatmeal is an option.  Or if you're willing to consider (horrors) peering into the local culture, the corn tortilla is a great low-sugar carb.  Try to find a tortilleria that makes them from corn (nixtamal) rather than Maseca;  kind of the difference between eating a piece of heaven or cardboard.

Good tamales are also available in PDC, and are my all-round favorite breakfast food.  Not bad for lunch or dinner, either.  Ask the locals.

"piece of heaven or cardboard."   Yup--nixtamal makes all the difference.

I agree that tortillas made with fresh-ground corn are much better, texture-wise, than those made with Maseca, but Maseca IS made from nixtamalized corn, as well.  It's just masa that's been dried and reground (kind of like instant coffee). But, theoretically, it's made from the same stuff (corn, cal, and water).

True.

On that note, high-quality whipping cream and cow poop are made of the same stuff (fresh grass and water).
