Call out for Help
Posted On 01/05/2010 09:50:02

As many people know there is a nice base ball park here in Chelem that is rarely used by the youth of town.

I approched Jorge that takes care of the ball park as to why there is no youth baseball or soft ball and he told me there is no equiment for the kids.We have talked a couple of times about this and he is getting together some parents to coach and then we will set a meeting up and start planning a sign up for boys and girls at a later date.

I have also talked with 4 business owners so far that said they would sponser a team. These sponsers will be for shirts and caps with there business name on them.

Like I said this is just in the planning stages right now.

What we need is donations of all kinds of baseball and soft ball equipment, this doesnt have to be new stuff .It can be used stuff like bats, balls, youth sizes of pants and cletes or tennis shoes, ball gloves, tee ball equiment ,catchers equipment, batting helmets, anything baseball or soft ball.

We also got a commitment from Coca cola for tents and such for opening day and score board for the field.

This equiment will not just be turned over to the kids at first,it will be on loan at each game and practice and be collected after each game so we can assure that there will be equiment for years to come.

Anything that you can donate will be well appreciated and taken care of.

Any cash donations will be used to buy new bases and extra equiment that is needed.

All donations can be dropped off at my house or at Taco Mayas, just tell Carol or Paul that its for the baseball collection and they will see that i get it.

I know we can do this.

&nb sp;   Thank all of you,

Terry had still owned a house here in Chelem but was only coming here once in awhile.

I want to thank Dr. Jerry Walker and his wife Sandy, from Corinth,Mississippi for the donation of 50 coloring books and 50 boxes of crayons. They really did a good job of picking these books because they are in spanish and english.

These will make a lot of kids happy this year.

Jerry and Sandy are staying in Mike and Terrys house and are hoping to be here alot more in the future.

Please say hello when you see them in and around town and thank them for taking an interest in Chelem.

Gossip in the Community
Posted On 06/29/2009 21:30:47

I ran across a quote today that says it pretty straight.

WATCH YOUR THOUGHTS; they become words.

WATCH YOUR WORDS; they become actions.

WATCH YOUR ACTIONS; they become habits.

WATCH YOUR HABITS; they become character.

WATCH YOUR CHARACTER; it becomes your destiny.

Most of us that live here full time know the gossip and rumors run rampant in the community. I know I became a victim of it from persons I thought were close friends. Guess I was wrong.

We all came here for a better way of life and to have a good time and spend our retirement peacefully. We should be pulling together and helping each other out and helping the local community instead of gossiping about what each other is doing or did. So the next time you are talking about Shirly Sue or Billy Bob (names made up) remember the quote above because if you do it enough you become labeled a gossiper and that becomes your destiny.

I only turn my cheek one time  in avoidance.

New resturant in Chelem !
Posted On 02/06/2009 12:27:46

Just wanted to let everyone know a new restaurant is opening Sunday morning, which will give us another place to go for food we are familiar with. I got a sneak peek at the menu today.

The Bull Pen will serve breakfast, featuring omelets, breakfast burritos, and traditional bacon and eggs with homestyle potatoes, and hotcakes. I can't wait to try their garlic bread with cheese and ham.

Breakfasts cost 2500 to 3500 pesos each.

The restaurant will also serve burgers, fries and chili cheese dogs with homemade chili.

Six hot specials that include a wide range of ingredients can be ordered in a flour tortilla or on a Chelem Spring Roll. They include pork, beef and chicken. Various cheeses, bacon, mushrooms, salsas, and other garnishes sound interesting. Tacos will sell for 1400 pesos. Tortes are 2000. NO fish is on the menu.

The Bull Pen has a full bar that will serve mixed drinks, beer and wine.

Let's support this new business operated by our fellow expats. It is right behind the ball fields in Chelem and is open seven days a week from 9a.m. to 8 p.m.

New Chelem Library
Posted On 12/17/2008 23:48:25

I have asked for a space in Hotel Las Garza for a small library and have been given the space for us to use by the owner Emmanuel.

I have a shelf built and will be putting it in the hotel this weekend and getting some books on the shelves.

Various people have donated some books and I think we will have @ 100 or so books to start off with.

This will start off as a honor thing and we will see how it goes.

I would like it to be a bring one take one kind of book exchange so that their is always a good selection of different books and everyone has something they like to read.

If anyone has books to donate I will be glad to work them into the shelves and they can be dropped off at the hotel or at my house next door.

Lets build this up so there will be a good selection at all times.

I have one set of book cases made now and as it grows Ill make more as they are needed.

If you see Raul or Emmanuel tell them thanks for the space and remember they have cold drinks and internet service there in the front lobby.

Thanks to all for the books to get this started and thank you Manny for giving me the space to start this.
